The magical combination of vivid colours in Alicante makes it the best destination
either for swimming or for any kind of water sports. Alicante, with its wide variety
of beaches, has been an ideal tourist destination for decades.
Shopping El Corte Inglés department store is among the most
famous ones. There are also some local stores where you can find all sorts suitable
gifts and souvenirs.
Parks The city of Alicante is full of green color thanks to
its many park areas. A special one is the newly opened “La Ereta Park” from where you
can enjoy a breath-taking view towards the city and the sea. Among other parks you
will also find the “Panteón de Quijano”, the “Portal de Elche”, and the “Plaza de
Calvo Sotelo”.
Cuisine Rise is obviously the most outstanding ingredient of
the local gastronomic cuisine since it comes in many different types. Fish and seafood
of the Mediterranean, fruit and vegetables that come fresh from the local market are
always on the menu.
Sports You can practise a wide range of sports in the
“Tossal Sports Park” Alicante’s large leisure area to which access is easy from the
city centre. Golf, tennis, horse riding, martial arts, karting and hockey all are
possible in Alicante’s heaven. No wonder that Alicante is the ultimate choice for
team rallies or team coaching, with the extra advantage of an ever perfect climate
and accommodation infrastructure that is fabulous.
Dining There are plenty of restaurants, patios, cafés, and
fast food chains throughout the city. Make sure you visit the beachfront and the
Explanada d'Espanya.
Nightlife Nightlife in Alicante is really superb.
We strongly recommend you the El barrio (neighbourhood) which is full of youngsters;
La Zona in San Fernando with the best of bars and pubs; Ruta de la Madera full of
restaurants; and Puerto de Alicante, a relatively new area. During summer San Juan’s
Beach is a magnificent resort by the sea.
FESTIVALS
Misteri d'Elx (Mystery of Elche) It is Alicante's religious
celebration (in August) where locals put on a performance about the Assumption of the
Virgin in the Transito Basilica.
Moros y Cristianos Alicante celebrates the Moros y Cristianos
(in April) with parades, displays, street concerts and dances to commemorate the
Christian victory over the Moorish troops of al-Azraq.
Hogueras de Sant Joan The bonfires of St.John
every 24th June was declared an official celebration in 1928. The celebration
begins with the Floral Offering to the Virgin de los Remedios, then follows the
international folklore parade, and concludes with the 'Bonfires' (22, 23 & 24 June).
Carnival Held annually on the weekend and days leading up to
Ash Wednesday, the Carnival is another important national celebration in Alicante.
On Saturday, called Sábado Ramblero, there are parades down Rambla Avenue featuring carnival
costumes, ending with a festivity called the “Funeral Wake and Burial of the Sardine”.
Virgen del Carmen (The Blessed Virgin Mary of Mt Carmel) The
event includes the decoration of fishing boats and other vessels as well as a fabulous
sailor's procession to honour their seaport patroness (in July).
